Dancer in the Dark - Lars Von Trier

I don't have a favourite movie, but I can say that I have favourite film director. My favourite film director is Lars Von Trier (european film director, because my chilean film director is Pablo Larraín). Lars Von Trier is danish and he is associated with the movement "Dogme 95". In "Dogme 95", the filmmakers concentrate on the story and the actor's performances.

Today, I'm going to talk about a beautiful movie of Lars Von Trier: "Dancer in the Dark", starring icelandic singer Björk (I LOVE HER!). The movie was premiered at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival and was awarded with "Palma de Oro".

The movie is filmed at Washington, United States. Selma (Björk) is a czech inmigrant who has moved to United States with her son. Selma has a hereditary degenerative disease which is gradually causing her to go blind. For that reason, Selma moved to U.S., to look for a work and can save money to pay for an operation which will prevent her little son from suffering the same fate. Selma works a lot and to escape the misery of her daily life, she slips into hallucinations where she imagines the ordinary circumstances with ordinary people into a music theater number.

My favourite part is the end of the film (keep your calm, I won't tell you the end). The song of the end, written and sing for Björk is perfect for that moment and her performance is amazing!

I love this film, because shows the reality: the poverty, treachery for money and the ugly part of the world.

I hate the movies with perfect end.

My favourite piece of technology: HP Envy X2

My favourite piece of technology is my laptop. The model of my laptop is HP Envy x2 and is so cool, because is a tablet and a computer at the same time. It's very light, pretty, fast and easy to use. I bought my laptop about three years ago, when I started my first year as an undergraduate student, because I thought that it was very necessary for the university. 

I use my laptop everyday, for different reasons: I use the tablet of my laptop especially for reading, because is very useful. I like listening to music, so I use my laptop for that too. Other use is for seeing movies, because with my account in netflix I can see a lot of movies all time. My favourite Netflix's series is "House of Cards".

Without my laptop, I couldn't work at night, and I always do my homework in the night.

I think that my life would be more complicated without my laptop, because I should spend more money to print texts and I couldn't see with frequency my series. Luckily, I have never lost my laptop.

Why I chose Sociology?

In 2013 I started my first year as an undergraduate student in University of Chile.
My family and me were very happy, because I'm the second generation of professionals.
At first, I wanted to study law, but then I thought that Sociology was a more appropriate degree for me.
My first year studying sociology was cool, because I learnt a lot. Fortunately, I live in Santiago so my first year in the University was easier than for other partners of regions.
Sociology is a social science that uses methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to study the social structure, the change in the social order and power relationships. I like my degree because I can see the things from different angles and I can contribute in public policies.
In the future, I want to study a postgraduate course in the area of public policy to learn more and to take part in reality.

Who I am?

Hi everybody! My name is Antonia Morales and I'm from Chile. I was born in 1995, therefore I'm twenty one years old. I'm student of sociology at University of Chile. I have a beautiful brother, his name is Domenico and he is an important reason to fight for a more equal world. My mother is a teacher, she works in a social risk's school, so her job is very hard. I like eating food of different countries, especially italian and indian food. I love watching movies and my favourite film director is Lars Von Trier. I love reading and my favourite book is "The Savage Detectives", written by the chilean author Roberto Bolaño.

I think my more big weakness in english is the shortage of vocabulary.

I hope that it will be possible to learn in the class, because I think that the english is very important and necessary to read texts of my discipline.
